Job Summary
CABI is an international, inter-governmental organization that improves people’s lives worldwide by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment.
THE ROLE: The Senior Database Engineer joins our development team to design and implement data solutions for our products. Working mainly with MarkLogic, the engineer performs data modelling, development and maintenance. Our products are wide ranging. They include mission-led web and mobile applications that provide information and tools to farmers and agricultural advisers around the world, particularly in lower income countries. Other products are aimed at academics and scientists to provide access to CABI’s data and information. An agricultural background is not required. The team works with domain specialists who provide that insight.
ABOUT YOU: You have a deep understanding of the art of data modelling in non-relational databases. You understand business requirements and implement effective and efficient database solutions to deliver them You enjoy building and enhancing NoSQL databases and REST APIs to provide data to software engineers.
Education & Qualifications: * Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a similar role
* 1+ MarkLogic certification or similar skill & experience level
Experience: * 6+ years database development or support
* 4+ years MarkLogic development
Personal Characteristics: * A good communicator, able to understand complex technical issues and discuss them with technical and non-technical people
* A desire to maintain and grow technical skills
* Can see the big picture and use that to make informed decisions about technical designs.
