The successful candidate will be the principal assistant to the Director of the Statistics Department as part of a team of Immediate Office (IO) assistants. S/he will provide full secretarial and administrative support to the Director, including and not limited to organizing and setting up complex schedules and maintaining the calendar of appointments; coordinating the Director’s travel arrangements; managing email and paper flows and channeling requests and keeping track of shifting priorities. The selected candidate may also be called to provide occasional support to the deputy directors. Additional responsibilities will include, in coordination with the Office Manager and other IO assistants, providing procedural guidance and relevant training and coaching to junior staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the secretarial and administrative operations in the front office and the department. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to perform the duties of Alternate Office Manager and will also be expected to exercise a leadership role among departmental assistants, including by providing guidance on Fund business practices and serving as mentor.


The candidate must possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of eight years of relevant experience, is required. Internal candidates must have met mobility requirements. External candidates must have spent at least four of the eight years of required experience in a lead role.
  • Strong administrative and interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to perform as part of a team; excellent coaching skills; proven ability to manage a complex and demanding workload; excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle sensitive matters with good judgment and diplomacy; record of consistently high-quality output; proven ability to work under pressure, manage short deadlines, handle multiple tasks and balance overlapping requests.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to interact effectively with Fund staff and external contacts at all levels.

  • Strong technological skills and a thorough knowledge of Fund standard software packages including databases.
  • Initiative, good judgment, strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills .
  • Proven experience in supervision of junior staff.
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to work overtime at short notice, while not required, would be desirable.
  • Ability to work in languages other than English, particularly Spanish and/or French, would also be an asset.
