The IMF is seeking to recruit a Section Chief, Creative Strategy and Operations to help lead its world-class team of creative experts.

The Creative Strategy and Operations Section sits in the Creative Solutions Division within the Corporate Services and Facilities Department (CSF) and supports the IMF’s work to promote financial stability, sustainable growth and reduce poverty in our 190 member countries around the globe. The Division serves as the in-house Creative Agency of the IMF and develops and manages corporate visual communication, outreach, digital products, and brand strategies and runs the IMF Broadcast Studio.

The Section Chief, Creative Strategy and Operations manages a team of creative project managers, strategists and the Creative Lab that operates at the intersection of business, technology, and communications to build products and services to forward the mission of the Fund.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the management of the Creative Lab to implement design thinking and other methodologies to enhance the design of products and experiences.
  • Adopts a human-centric design methodology to solicit, analyze and define departmental and Fund wide requirements, identifies best practices, and formulates recommendations. Specifically ensures that the interests of the Fund are being effectively met in the management of expenditures and resources in support of communication initiatives.
  • Facilitates Design-Thinking sessions, leads user research and prototyping activities, synthetizes findings and drafts reports/papers.
  • Leads client engagement, and oversees the process of co-designing with clients, creative talents, and other stakeholders to deliver human-centered, end-to-end solutions that meet the business needs.
  • Actively engages outside organizations and public and private sector entities in a cooperative dialogue to ensure a productive exchange and sharing of best practices in the application of Human-Centered-Design, Behavioral Science, and Data-driven product development
  • Actively assists with strategic planning and provides substantive input to the division’s strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Ensures the effective and efficient scheduling, communication, and project management of daily, division-wide operational tasks. And oversees establishment of service policies, blueprints and workflows, use of project management system including setting of relevant KPIs and impact measurements.

  • Manages the performance of staff in the effective and efficient execution of tasks related to budgeting, scheduling, project management, product development, user research and client relations. Sets appropriate and achievable developmental and work objectives, ensuring timely delivery of operational direction and performance feedback.
  • Manages the development of Statement of Work and requests for proposals (RFPs) for relevant projects/services. Conducts research of potential vendors and assesses their ability to produce work according to specifications.
  • Manages staff development and performance, providing timely feedback and coaching.
  • Supervises a team of product and project managers.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in communications, international relations, business, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of eight years of relevant, progressively responsible work experience, is required. Alternatively, a university degree, or equivalent, and fourteen years of relevant professional experience are required.

In addition, the successful candidate should have:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in creative operations and human-centered design targeting international audience. Knowledge of behavioral science, a plus.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of visual communications, digital product development and marketing strategies with demonstrated hands-on experience in creating innovative products, campaigns, and experience designs.
  • Strong facilitation, communications (written and verbal) and negotiation skills to manage complex and highly visible projects.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a cross-functional team of experts in an international organizational setting and to direct multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Drive, focus and good decision-making skills.
