Background of this search:

The Knowledge and Learning Division of the Knowledge, Innovation, and Communication Sector (KIC/KLD) is looking for an energetic professional with a background in library services to join the Felipe Herrera Library team.

The team’s mission:

The Felipe Herrera Library offers guidance and tools related to classifying, curating, identifying, opening, and using knowledge. It is also responsible for managing the Bank’s digital and physical repositories of publications and its open data portal. We are a team of seasoned professionals excited about making relevant knowledge widely available to be used, shared, and built upon.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide librarian services support to internal client departments, including advising on and supporting publications procedures; supporting the use of subscription services; compiling reference resources and data; performing subject area research; and other library related services as needed.
  • Coordinate ad-hoc research reports and the curation of resources related to specific topics on demand.
  • Coordinate the creation, updating, and monitoring of curated research and thematic collections via the LibGuides platform.
  • Generate guides and training material for the Felipe Herrera Library intranet pages and deliver training sessions to clients related to library services and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the Reference team by providing customer service support for the products and services offered by the Felipe Herrera Library.
  • Other tasks as agreed with supervisor.

What you’ll need:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in information sciences, Information Management, Library Services, Data analysis, Information Technology, or another related field.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Languages: Spanish and English fluency required.

Core and Technical Competencies:

  • Able to learn new processes quickly, thoroughly, and confidently.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own time effectively.

  • Friendly and competent customer service disposition.
  • Research abilities, especially via publications/journal databases (e.g., OCLC) and internet sites.
  • Strong capacity to synthesize and communicate ideas, policies, and research findings to clients.
  • Experience in resource curation.
  • Basic website management skills, including basic html and CSS knowledge, as well as familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
  • Familiarity with metadata standards and good practices.
  • Familiarity with the LibGuides platform is a plus.
  • Some experience with taxonomy/ontology management a plus.
  • Familiarity with publications and/or library processes desirable.
  • Experience working in a customer facing role desirable.

Opportunity Summary:

  • Type of contract: Consultant Full Time (CNS Full Time)
  • Length of contract: 12 months, with the possibility of extending for up to a total of 36 months.
  • Location: Remote.
  • Requirements: You must be citizen of one of the IDB’s 48-member countries and have no family members currently working at the IDB Group.
