Organisational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.
This position is located in the Warehouse and Distribution Unit(W&D), Delivery and Return Section within the Supply Chain Service of the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy.
This position is under the general supervision of the Chief Warehouse and Distribution.
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: SUPPLY:
- Process Material Request Orders for transfer of assets to various missions.
- Assists staff within the Section with respect to relevant procedures and practices.
- Organizes, monitors and maintains contract files and Section’s manuals.
- Liaises with relevant divisions, e.g., procurement, accounting, with respect to verification and processing of goods.
- Records and monitors contract activity.
- Maintains contact with relevant headquarters and mission staff with respect to provision, co-ordination, monitoring and status of received material.
- Initiates relevant action with respect to requisitions and purchase orders and monitors receipts.
- Performs physical inspections (including opening of boxes, containers, de-stuffing and re-stuffing as necessary and driving of light and medium capacity UN vehicles and/or Material Handling Equipment) and processes reports in Umoja.
- Maintains and monitors relevant databases, e.g., stock levels of various supply items.
- Provides updates of incoming goods status on a regular basis.
- Generates relevant status reports.
- Performs other duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Driving license type “B” is required.
Driving license for higher levels than “B”, i.e. type C, D and E, is desirable.
Forklift operator certificate (minimum 3 Tons) is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in supply management, materials management, logistics or related area is required.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, Teams, etc.) is required.
Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is required.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Italian language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Recruitment for this position is done on a local basis.
This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat. Having passed the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) in English at Headquarters, ECA, ESCWA, UNOG, UNOV, ICTR, or ICTY may be recognized in place of the GGST, pending confirmation of validity.
