For its headquarters in Washington, D.C., the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an international organization with a diverse staff from over 140 countries, is seeking an Internal Investigator.
The Internal Investigator contributes to the good governance of the Fund and assists the organization in maintaining high ethical standards and its reputation, and the reputation of its employees, for probity, integrity, and impartiality.
The Internal Investigator carries out impartial preliminary inquiries and investigations into alleged violations of the rules and regulations governing the conduct of Fund employees and ither individuals who participate in the benefits plans (e.g. medical, retirement) maintained by the Fund. The Internal Investigator coordinates the activities of his or her office with those of related Fund offices, including the Ethics Office (while maintaining strict confidentiality and due regard for the respective responsibilities of the Offices), the Office of Internal Audit, and the External Compliance Advisor on matters concerning financial certification and disclosure. The Internal Investigator also develops guidelines, policies, and procedures for misconduct investigations of Fund staff, within the framework of the Fund’s overriding rules applicable to staff misconduct and investigations.
In exercising his or her duties, the Internal Investigator will report directly to the Managing Director and will be independent of any official, department, office, or other organization entity of the Fund.
Qualifications
Candidates should have substantial prior experience as an internal investigator, inspector general, or in a similar position dealing with impartial queries and investigators in an international organization, or in a national public or private sector organization, preferably with multinational orientation. Candidates should not have worked previously with the IMF. A legal background would be useful but is not required. Initially the appointment will be on a two-year contractual basis, with the possibility of an extension for an additional and final three years.
An excellent command of English, the working language of the IMF, is required. Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable.
