Internship opportunities at the ITER Organization

Task Title: INTERN-SCOP07-Interface development, versioning and release of the transport code Tomator-1D Domain: Science & Operation Domain Department: Science, Controls & Operation Department Division: Not Applicable Section: Experiments & Plasma Operation Section Duration (in months): 4 to 6 months Location: France, 13067 St Paul Lez Durance Cedex Description of tasks:

The 1-dimensional transport code Tomator-1D simulates toroidally uniform, partially ionized discharges. It is used to study Ion Cyclotron Heating (ICH) and Electron Cyclotron Heating (ECH) discharges with open field lines, which find applications as wall conditioning and plasma pre-ionization techniques. To allow a broader usage of the tool, as well as to keep track of several collaborative and explorative developments, this internship project proposes to develop a python user interface to the C++ code as well as to version control the source codes through a central repository.

Task 1: Familiarize with the Tomator-1D use cases and C++ source code by reproducing simulations of literature; Task 2: Contribute in developing a graphical user interface in python for easy scheduling and post processing of simulations, maintaining the different code options and use cases; Task 3: Interact with Tomator-1D users to define the master version of the code, as well as eventual explorative development branches; Task 4: Help in developing user manual and example cases; Task 5: Assist in releasing the simulation tool to the ITER community to promote usage and joint development.

The ITER Organization offers internship opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students with the objective of providing these students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study, whilst collaborating in an international, scientific and multicultural environment. Internships are offered for up to six months, extendable for up to one year (depending on the category). To find out more about our internship program, please refer to our website (click here)

For any further questions, please contact [email protected]

Internship opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation, and the United States).

Please also note that interns are not considered staff members and shall, therefore, not have the status of “Staff” as per the ITER Agreement and the Headquarters Agreement (see more information on these constitutive agreements in Legal Resources). Neither the ITER Staff Regulations nor the privileges and immunities granted to ITER Organization staff are applicable to interns. The ITER Organization salary, pension scheme, and social insurance coverage do also not apply.
