Organisational Setting and Reporting
The internship at the ESCAP East and North-East Asia (ENEA) Office located in Incheon, Republic of Korea, is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, if required by the division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.
The intern will assist SRO-ENEA in undertaking research and analysis, project planning and execution, and policy review relating to technology and innovation:
- Review academic literature relating to science, technology and innovation policy
- Monitor trends in frontier technologies, their impacts, and policy responses
- Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research relating to technology and innovation policy
- Support growing innovation and start-up ecosystems towards the achievement of the SDGs
- Analyze applications of technologies for SDGs, e.g. in population ageing, education, health
- Promote responsible technological development and innovation in alignment with the SDGs, UN Charter, and human rights
- Support inclusive and diverse technology and innovation sectors, including a focus on gender equality
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assistance in drafting research reports and policy papers
- Participate in project planning
- Liaise with external partners, including private sector, civil society, and start-ups
- Developing presentations that communicate technological ideas to a broader audience
- Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
- Compiling and analysing statistics
- Collecting and analysing national or sub-national policies
- Collecting and analysing private sector actions and policies
- Supporting conferences and workshops
- Support for online communications activities

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, and fluency in spoken and written any language of ENEA member countries is preferred.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
