Internship opportunities at the ITER Organization
Task Title: INTERN-ENGN08-Intern for the modelling of the ITER lost alpha diagnostic Domain: Engineering Domain Department: Engineering Design Department Division: Port Plugs & Diagnostics Division Section: Ex-Vessel Diagnostics Section Duration (in months): 6 Location: France, 13067 St Paul Lez Durance Cedex Description of tasks:
This internship is for the ITER lost alpha monitor diagnostic. The intern will be supervised by the IO(ITER Organization) staff and will interact with IO external collaborators. The scope of work is to perform field line tracing for the ITER lost alpha monitor diagnostic using the code available at IO. The intern will perform set of the field line tracing simulations for different plasma equilibria and heat load specifications. The internship tasks may also include the thermal simulations to evaluate the temperature of the components based on the heat loads calculated from the field line tracing.
Task 1: Become familiar with ITER lost alpha monitor; Task 2: Become familiar with the field line tracing code, heat load specifications and (IMAS) Integrated modelling & analysis suite; Task 3: Assist in performing series of the field line tracing simulations for different plasma equilibria and heat load specifications; Task 4: Assist in performing thermal simulations to calculate the component temperature; Task 5: Summarize the results in the final report (thesis, if applicable).
The ITER Organization offers internship opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students with the objective of providing these students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study, whilst collaborating in an international, scientific and multicultural environment. Internships are offered for up to six months, extendable for up to one year (depending on the category). To find out more about our internship program, please refer to our website (click here)
For any further questions, please contact [email protected]
Internship opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russian Federation, and the United States).
Please also note that interns are not considered staff members and shall, therefore, not have the status of “Staff” as per the ITER Agreement and the Headquarters Agreement (see more information on these constitutive agreements in Legal Resources). Neither the ITER Staff Regulations nor the privileges and immunities granted to ITER Organization staff are applicable to interns. The ITER Organization salary, pension scheme, and social insurance coverage do also not apply.
