Organisational Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Office of the Director of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva.
The internship is for a maximum period duration of six months.
The internship is UNPAID and fulltime.
Interns work five (5) days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Officer in charge of internship. The incumbent reports to the P-4 Transition Programme Management Officer.
Background: The General Assembly has approved a CHF 836 Million budget for the progressive renovation of the historic Palais des Nations at Geneva. The project, referred to as the Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP), entails multiple staff relocations, sequential closures of conference facilities and the implementation of mandated flexible working arrangements.The Division of Administration which is at the centre of all these activities has established a Transition Team that works hand in hand with the SHP project team and focal points from UNOG offices affected by office moves to support non-construction related aspects of the project implementation, with particular focus on facilitating the necessary transitional arrangements and related communications aspects. The Transition Team is responsible, on behalf of the Director of Administration, to:
- Facilitate open communications across functional and divisional boundaries to establish an inclusive environment where individuals are valued for their role in the organization and their contribution to the transition effort.
- Transform the way UNOG operates to make best use of the facilities and technologies of the Palais des Nations after completion of the SHP project and to take advantage of opportunities presented by the significant financial investment in the new and renovated buildings.
- Facilitate moves of groups of persons throughout the life of the SHP project by helping teams transition between different working environments and provide a reference point for them during the settling-in period.
- Prepare and make presentations to, and take guidance from, the Transition Board; implement decisions taken by the Board.
This internship offers an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day tasks related to the support and realization of large-scale moves and transition of United Nations staff to renovated and new office spaces, within a large-scale project impacting the workplace and ways of working for United Nations staff.
The daily responsibilities of the intern are to assist the Transition Team and may include, but are not limited to:
- Produce internal communication products for stakeholders implicated by moves, including brochures, graphic images, videos and other materials, to be published on iSeek, the UN intranet and/or printed for internal distribution.
- Produce online content for the Transition Team intranet website.
- Assist as needed during move days and settling-in days post-move for different UN entities.
- Assist in the development of post-move user feedback surveys and other means of soliciting user feedback,
- Assist in tours to pilot office spaces and other stakeholder engagement activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Interested candidates must be pursuing or pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening.
In addition, interested candidates must:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and,
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
